Tammy Helm re-joined our Advocates team July 1, 2021. She graduated from the Interpreter Preparation Program at Illinois Central College in 1998. After graduation, She worked at ICC as an interpreter and at various other locations as a freelance interpreter. From 2002-2012, she worked as a Staff Interpreter, Interpreter Referral Coordinator and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advocate at Advocates for Access. After nine years away, she is excited to be back at AFA to assist the Deaf community as the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advocate part-time, which allows her to continue as a freelance interpreter in the community the other days. When she isn’t working, Tammy enjoys spending time with her husband of 30 years and hanging out with their son, Josh.
